Bookfessional: Book BFFs

We talk about book boyfriends all the time (Clayton Danvers is mine, and I’ll cut anyone who tries to claim him for their own), but what about book best friends? The characters we read and share an instant connection with, the ones who are kindred spirits that we know we’d be friends with if we met them in the real world?

(Some of) Mine are as follows:

1. October Daye from Seanan McGuire’s OCTOBER DAYE series.

B/c reasons. She’s tenacious and clever and doesn’t understand the concept of surrender, and I love her. Also she’s FAE.

October Daye:

2. Celeana Sardothian/Aelin Galathynius from the THRONE OF GLASS series by Sarah J. Maas.

Having an assassin for a bff might get complicated, but when she also eats candy by the fistful and appreciates both good books and fashion, it would be worth the havoc, IMO.

Throne of Glass:

3. Mat Cauthon from Robert Jordan’s THE WHEEL OF TIME.

Perhaps my favorite fantasy character of all time, Mat will never make the book boyfriend list—he’s a gambler, and a drunk, and an occasional horse thief—but any time spent in his presence is almost guaranteed to be an adventure.

The Wheel of Time:

4. Elena Danvers from Kelley Armstrong’s OTHERWORLD series.

Elena can be stubborn to a fault, but so can I, and she epitomizes the loyalty that springs to mind when one imagines a wolf pack. Truthfully, she’s all things wolfy, in the best ways possible. I love the ruthless pragmatism she engages when protecting her people.

It may seem like a conflict of interest to include #1 book boyfriend’s mate on this list, but they’re wholly unconnected, b/c #idowhatiwant

Otherworld:

5. Agnieszka from UPROOTED by Naomi Novik.

Not only will she do anything to help a friend, right up to facing what to all appearances is certain death, but Agnieszka refuses to be anything other than what she is. Unapologetically. Even when told repeatedly that her way is wrong.

It’s impossible not to admire the strength of her sense of self.

Uprooted:

What about you? Who are your book BFFs?

Jessica Signature

My name is Jessica and I live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I’m trying my hand at writing, but mostly I read. My favorite genres are Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Science Fiction, Urban Fantasy, and the YA versions of those genres, but if there is a book of a different color getting lots of buzz, I’ll read it too, just to be informed. If I’m not reading or writing, I’m probably on Goodreads or Pinterest or baking blueberry pies because I love them.
