Question: Which Authors Would You Invite to Your Birthday Party?

Happy Birthday to MEEEE! *throws confetti* I don’t have much planned celebration-wise other than a nice dinner with #1, and possibly some retail therapy, but that’s more due to the fact that I’m starting a new job at the end of this month, and I don’t think my yoga pants qualify as business casual. So, in lieu of a real party I decided that it would be fun to come up with a guest list for a fictional shindig.

I’d love it if Jeaniene Frost could attend because although she looks SUPER prim & proper in her bio pic, as a long time reader of her books, I have a good idea of what really goes on in that wicked mind of hers. Plus, she was on a bunch of panels I caught at RT13, and was an absolute hoot! Sierra Dean would be a must as well considering I’d need at least one Canadian there who could keep up with me on the beer drinking front, so that I wouldn’t feel like a complete lush, and I’m confident that this Winnipeg native will be able to hold her own.

Amanda Bonilla‘s presence would be mandatory because I’ve been dying to meet her ever since I first discovered her SHAEDE ASSASSIN series back in 2011, and as a fellow resident of the middle-of-nowhere, I’m positive that we’d hit it off right away. I don’t want this to be a total chick fest, so I’d be sure to invite a couple of my favourite male authors including: Kevin Hearne, Jim Butcher, and Elliott James. And, no party would be complete without Gordon & Ilona Andrews‘ crazy antics. They got Jen from Red Hot Books drunk; thus I already have confirmation that they know how to have a good time.

Molly Harper is an absolute riot, therefore she’d definitely make the cut, as would Jennifer Estep, Jess Haines, and Diana Rowland. I need a few more Canadians… fingers crossed that Linda Poitevin, Kelley Armstrong, and Amber Lynn Natusch are free. And, with this many fabulous women in attendance, I’m sure that I could convince a couple of male cover models to crash. πŸ˜‰ I know that I probably missed a bunch of names, but I have cake to eat, so duty calls!

  1. First…Happy Birthday my Canadian friend!! Big congrats on the new job too! You’re having a wonderful year so far!
Let’s see, I’ve always just missed meeting an author I first interviewed, Connie Suttle, would love to meet her. Of course, every list should include Ilona Andrews because well they are awesome and great friends with Jeaniene Frost. Another I would have to add is Faith Hunter just to talk to her about Beast. Another that fascinates me because of her fantastic imagination is Michelle Sagara. I’m trying desperately to think of a male author besides Kevin Hearne but unfortunately the one I most wanted to meet passed away unexpectedly, Vince Flynn. One I’ve never read but seen interviewed and I’ve heard he loves to talk is George R.R. Martin. (I was lucky enough to meet some fantastic ladies at AAD in Savannah and they are more than interesting: Mary Janice Davidson, Jennifer Estep, Amanda Bonila and Amanda Carlson – she’s a hoot!) Two authors that would leave me completely speechless would be Nora Roberts and Linda Howard. Boy, that would be a big party.
    Wishing you a fantastic day!!

  2. Happy Birthday! I hope you have an awesome day, hey think of the Habs’ win last night as their gift to you lol.
There are so many authors I would love to invite! Jodi Meadows, Rachel Vincent, Linda Poitevin, Sarah J. Maas and Kelley Armstrong. There’s a bunch more but I narrowed down to a few πŸ˜€

  4. Happy birthday! I hope you have an amazing day.

If I could invite authors to a brithdya part I would love to invite SJ Pajonas, she would be my first choice. As she’s an amazing author and I feel like I actually got to know her due to the fact that we frequently comment on each others blogs. I would love to meet her in real life. And Siobhan Davis, I’ve worked a lot with this author and she’s such a nice person and writes good books. And if Kelley Armstrong was free that would be amazing as well! Or Rachel Vincent and Richelle Mead as those are two of my fvaourite authors as well.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my favorite Canadian.

I love your list and most of them would be on my list as well. I would add Jaye Wells, Nicole Peeler and Mark Henry. Those three are funny as hell.

I would also like to invite Darynda Jones, Kresley Cole, and a few narrators that would be super fun like Luke Daniels and he could only talk like Obern the whole time. LOL

  9. Happy Birthday, Carmel!

Looks like you have a great group for your party. Let’s see… I’m going to invite writers from the past b/c I really want to know what they were like: Agatha Christie, Georgette Heyer, JRR Tolkien, Jane Austen, Mark Twain, Ellis Peters, Jules Verne, Jack London, Victoria Holt, Elizabeth Peters, Robert Louis Stevenson, Lucy Maude Montgomery, Edgar Allan Poe, Margaret Mitchell, Louis L’Amour, Daphne Du Maurier, Rudyard Kipling, Alexandre Dumas. There numbers are even and we’re ready to party good.

  10. Happy Birthday, Carmel!! I hope you’ve had a wonderful day! I love your invitee list for the birthday bash – the Andrews were at the top of my list since I think they’d be a hoot to party with. Several others on your list would make mine as well – and I’d probably add a few Colorado authors too. (JA Huss) I was happy to see that you’re a beer girl…I *knew* there was a reason I liked you other than your fab reviews and recommendations. πŸ˜‰ So I’ll raise a beer to toast you and wish you lots and lots of the good stuff in the next year! <3 And hopefully we'll get to meet in person one day and have a beer together.

  11. Happy (belated) Birthday and congrats on your new job! I hope you had the most wonderful day and enjoyed your retail therapy and dinner.

I think my birthday celebration would be huge because my author guest list would be long! at the top of my list would most definitely be KMM, JLA, Ada Adams who is the loveliest, Ilona Andrews, Chloe Neill, Karen Lynch and Paula Weston. I’ll stop there πŸ˜‰
