Imprisonment in Obsidius. Enslavement to a soul-sucking succubus. A reproductive cycle that’d send a sex fiend running into the arms of celibacy. Given the choice, most demons would opt for death.
Gavin, eldest son of Wrath, has been sentenced to all three.
When the succubus decides its time collect, though, he fears his nightmares have only just begun.
And Sabelle’s timing couldn’t be worse.
With a bad case of uncontrollable lust, thanks to his Savidon, the last thing Gavin wants is a vengeful succubus stoking his darkest desires, but debts must be paid—he just didn’t bank on enjoying his punishment so much.
Because the swinging bachelor may have found his perfect mate in the sexy seductress.
However, just as things seem to be looking up, past sins resurface, plunging the two into a deadly game of power and deception. As their worst fears merge into one unexpected threat, Gavin is determined to protect Sabelle and win her freedom.
At any cost.

SOUL ENSLAVED was a very different animal than the previous two installments; the first half had more of a Paranormal Romance vibe to it with Gavin & Sabelle lighting up the pages with their personal conflicts, relationship tango, and fervid sexcapades. Then, the darker Urban Fantasy side of Keri Lake’s SONS OF WRATH series went all black hole on the happy couple’s sunshine by stealing their HEA out from under them in a big way. Several of this book’s aspects were reminiscent of Larissa Ione’s DEMONICA world, except with more gloom, so if you’re a fan of the latter, and could do with a bit more muscle, you’ve come to the right place.
I enjoyed this author’s take on succubi because she went well beyond the usual soul sucking nymphomaniac into uncharted territory by exploring their power structure, what it means to owe a debt, Priming, and something called Renoshza which is the equivalent of a demonic activation button (g-spot). There’s a convenient glossary to assist readers with figuring out what’s what, and although I did refer to it initially as a sort of series refresher, Lake incorporated detailed explanations throughout the story that makes remembering the various terms a breeze. Sabelle’s also a great MC which helped make her world even more accessible.
The preferred starting point in any PNR that features a group of grade-A males is customarily the leader, but instead Lake delayed Gavin’s tale until book 3, I liked that. It lead to a more three dimensional character with a well-shaped past, and the continuation of a secondary plot thread from a previous installment. I was thrilled with the author’s ‘show’ approach to this novel’s hero; she let his actions speak for themselves which gave readers a good idea of the man behind the demon prince. I really felt for Sabelle too, she’s been backed into a corner by her conniving pimp, wants to give her children a better life, and is prepared to risk it all.
A lot of the sex scenes found in romance can become redundant when you’re an avid smut consumer, so the ones in this novel are worth a mention because they are anything but vanilla. They come in a variety of flavours and levels of intensity that are sure to please. That being said, this writer is an expert in all things light AND dark, therefore be prepared to also experience immense loss, despair, and suffering. At least Zayne, Logan, Calix, Zeke, Maddox and Ferno, the other Wrath brothers, were there to pick-up the pieces of my shattered heart. Only to not be outdone by an ending that left me in complete wonderment.
SOUL ENSLAVED was as finger lickin’ good as it was earth-shatteringly sad. There’s nothing quite like Keri Lake’s story telling!

I don’t remember who put Soul Avenged on my radar, Carmel, but it’s patiently waiting for me to make time for it. And after reading this review, I want to dive into this series. It makes me happy when an author takes a certain mythology/supernatural and puts their own stamp on it, and it seems as though Lake has done that with this series. You know I love me some romance 😉 but I like a fair amount of darkness as well, so Soul Enslaved sounds like my kinda read. It also seems like quite a ride with its ups and downs.
I’m rambling – no coffee yet – great review, Carmel! You’ve moved this series up in the queue. 🙂 Happy Friday!!

It’s at times like these when I wonder why I don’t read more indie authors because Keri Lake’s writing is superb. I’ve reviewed all of the titles in this series except the novella, so maybe it was me. Naaah, I don’t think we were following each other then, so I can’t take the credit for this one. Have a great weekend!
Wow, it sounds like this series is an absolute emotional rollercoaster! I’m not sure if I’m ready to get my heart broken so intensely as this book (and series) seem to have the chance to do so, but it sound like it’s a book (and series) that I must have in my wish list!
Thank you for sharing and putting them in my radar Carmel!
Pili recently posted…Friday Reads: ARC Review of Red Rising by Pierce Brown!!!
This author never fails to sucker punch me in the gut every time she releases a new novel! The story always bounces back though to deliver a HEA, so I know that I just have to tough it out. 🙂
This looks really intriguing and right up my ally. I’m not familiar with this author, but Ill will be looking into that deal of the four books for $3. Great review.
Melanie recently posted…Question: Have You Ever Changed Your Rating?
Now is certainly a great time to jump on board with that great sale! Think of it as an Xmas present from you to you. Hehe!
This sounds just like something I might like! Thank you so much for sharing and your review is brilliant.
Glass recently posted…Bookish Problems #17 – Reading Schedule: Yes or No?
Thanks, Darling! I was so looking forward to Gavin’s story, and Lake did NOT disappoint.
Earth shatteringly sad? That does not sound promising Carmel! So does that mean there’s no HEA for this couple at the end of this book? I’m not sure I can handle something sad at the moment, I need light and fluffy around the holidays, but normally dark and gritty is my thing, so I’m adding this series to the list:)
There is a HEA, but getting there is a real b*tch. LOL! Just take a deep breath, dive-in, and know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I’ve seen this series around and for some reason never realized there was werewolves in it. I shall give it a try. I mean if you gave it 5 stars I SHOULD.
Jennifer recently posted…Mandy Baxter Shares a Naughty Excerpt
The werewolves are EVIL, so it doesn’t really qualify as a furry read, but the story still has a lot going for it, so I forgive Lake for demonizing my fav supe.
That sounds even better. I like it when the there are EVIL supes.
Hmph!
Guess I need to move this to the top of my TBR pile 🙂
That you do! I’d recommend reading the previous installments first though if you haven’t done so already.
What a great deal for all the books, great review too. I think I would like this series as well.
A 5-star book at a GREAT price. You can’t go wrong!
Heart breaking and kinky are both things I avoid. The world sounds interesting though and it’s cool that she saved the leader’s story for last, sounds like it paid off.
Molly Mortensen recently posted…Indie Book Review: Elemental Rancor by Charles Lominec
Gavin’s story wasn’t last, there are still at least two more books planned in this series, but yes, I was happy to wait. If you don’t like kink, this one’s probably not for you.
I love that. I love that the author took her time with the leader of the pack (much like Acheron from S Kenyon’s Dark Hunters?. Also, vanilla is good, twisted is scary. Ha.
Sounds great, Carmel.

This series is an odd blend of horrible and sweet. Those two things don’t normally go together, but Lake makes it work.
I’ve known about this series, but just haven’t gotten around to it. Glad this last one was wow-worthy. I’ll have to check out the sale for sure.

I know you usually don’t spoilers in your review so I took a chance and read it before reading the book myself and am super excited you gave it 5 stars! The Sons of Wrath are quickly becoming some of my fave book boyfriends in UF, I can’t wait to get to this one, have my heart torn out and then deliver the HEA, Ms. Lake does that very well! 🙂
Lori recently posted…Book Blast: SOUL ENSLAVED by Keri Lake + Giveaway
Every so often one gets by me, but I try to avoid ’em as much as possible. You’d better investigate as to whether you need to read book 2 first though before you meet Gavin for reals.
I meant post spoilers…I definitely will revisit Soul Resurrected before getting to this one!
Lori recently posted…Book Blast: SOUL ENSLAVED by Keri Lake + Giveaway
That’s what I was referring too in my first sentence, except I forgot to actually say spoilers. Blogger FAIL.
Holy crap that sounds like I need an emotional seatbelt before reading those. I actually love those kind of stories. They make me “that reader” 🙂

I don’t read many indies, but it’s amazing what a cleverly worded review request can do. Keri Lake took the time to tailor her original submission to pique my interest, and it obviously worked. I’ve been hooked ever since. Now, I come to HER. Hehe!
You’re so right! I actually have a post planned about that. I get SO many requests that I honestly don’t give them all the attention they deserve. Then there are those that are so poorly worded that they really don’t deserve much at all. Then there are a few requests that really get my attention and make me want to read the book. Makes such a difference!
there are some that are Nicole recently posted…Top Ten List & Giveaway – Deceived by L.A. Starkey
Oh, and since I didn’t comment enough on this post yet, I thought I’d come back and let you know I just bought all four books. 🙂
Nicole recently posted…Top Ten List & Giveaway – Deceived by L.A. Starkey
Whenever my e-mail address isn’t the sole entry in a request’s to field (i.e. no bcc, or multiple recipients), my name is misspelled, etc I don’t even take the time to look at ’em. If you can’t spend 5 minutes surfing my blog to learn my name, genre preferences, and follow my submission guidelines, then I can’t take 5+ hours to read / review your book.
YAY! I hope my recommendation doesn’t steer you wrong. 🙂
Okay first you get my attention not only with the good price, but with the fact it goes to charity? The only downside for me is the crying. I hate to cry and this sounds like I will do that. 🙁 Still… *goes to buy tissues*
Melissa (Books and Things) recently posted…AimeeKay Review: Glorious Layered Desserts by Glory Albin
I didn’t cry because the loss didn’t affect me overly much, however I’m probably the exception not the norm in this case, so expect tears.
I love stopping by and seeing new to me books. Sounds like I would enjoy this one 🙂 And hello sexy man on the cover 😉
Lily meet Keri Lake, Keri meet Lily. 😀
This>> SOUL ENSLAVED was as finger lickin’ good as it was earth-shatteringly sad, and SHATTERED HEART?!?! NOT AGAIN! I’m still recovering from Cecy Robson’s novel, I started this the other day but decided to start it tomorrow instead. Got too much shit going on and I want to give it my undivided attention. I’m scared now…

Ooh geez, I want to tell you that you NEED to read this, however if you’re still recovering from a book hangover… I hate to say this, but you might wanna hold off on this one for a couple of days.
It’s nice to see that you had a great time again with this new book. I heard a lot about the author but I confess that I haven’t read any of her books yet but I really should, it sounds so well done. Great review!
You NEED to meet the Sons of Wrath! Quick procrastinating, and get on it already. 😉
Gah Carmel!!! Guess what I did before I even read your review? Yes, I one-clicked the first four books, of course. As if I needed more books on my TBR shelf.
I haven’t read any of these yet, so I can’t really say anything specific about Gavin or any other character, apart from the fact that they sound truly awesome 🙂
Have a fantastic weekend, Carmel 🙂

This one sounds really good. I’ll add to my TBR for the day I can read PNR again.

I like going through all the ups and downs, especially when I know there will be a HEA. These sound like some intense reads.

It’s SO hard to pick a fav Sons of Wrath; I’m still coming down from my Gavin high, so of course he’s the one I’m mooning over at the moment. 🙂
This does sound like a series I’d enjoy but also emotionally intense. I’m not usually a fan of succubi but it seems like this aspect was done well.
A great review Carmel! thank you for sharing.

This is the first installment that featured a succubi as a main character. The Sons of Wrath are all demons, however each book has featured a different supe type for the mates. Something for everyone!
