I’m sick, my in-laws are visiting this weekend, and I have to spend yet another Saturday writing exams for a job that I am applying for (at least this time it’s only 3 hours instead of 7!), so I’m keeping it simple today.
My first pick is a no-brainer because it’s by my favourite author, and I just love the limited editions that Subterranean Press publishes of her novellas. The full-colour illustrations by Xaviere Daumarie are incredible, and I like that they are numbed & signed. Unfortunately that also means that they are rather expensive, and splurging on Kelley Armstrong’s FORSAKEN isn’t in the cards right now, however if Santa wants to leave a copy under my tree that’d be a-ok with me. Granted, I am cheating a bit because it doesn’t hit shelves until January 31st, but the big guy is magic, so I’m sure he can manage.
#2 is WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD by Dianna Gabaldon. I purchased the audiobook back in June, and Davina Porter’s narration helped me keep my sanity during the final weeks of wedding prep. I already own all of the previous installments, and would like to give this one a home on my shelves as well. My final pick is SHATTERED by Kevin Hearne because again, I need it to top off my collection. I borrowed a copy from a friend when it was originally released, although I might hold-off until it’s available in paperback to stay consistent.
Have a bookish question you’d like Rabid Reads to weigh-in on? E-mail me, and be sure you include your blog URL (if you have one), so we can give you credit!

Honestly, there are so many books on my TBR that I would rather just have a gift card. Ha

GCs are the gift that keeps on giving!
The up side, you can use being sick to avoid the in-laws as you surely wouldn’t want to make them ill. Good, right?
Since Christmas is a magical, miracle time, the books I want under my tree are all future releases but good old Santa might make it happen.
1. Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop – most of my blogger friends have read this one and it’s killing me not to ask questions!!
2. Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews – well because Kate…Curran
3. Cast in Honor by Michelle Sagara – This series just fascinates me
Come on Santa, I’ve been a very good girl!!
Seriously, hope you feel better!!
Dolly recently posted…Marta Reviews: Blood Moon (Moon #3) by Lisa Kessler
I’m not convinced that you’ve been a VERY good girl, but check your inbox. Xmas might have come early! 😀
Boy, now I feel guilty because I already pre-ordered Forsaken in hc and didn’t know people out of the US had to pay so much.
Doll recently posted…Marta Reviews: Christmas with a Bite (Entangled Covet) by Patricia A. Wolf
Yup. It’s a little ridiculous. I could get it in eBook, but where’s the fun in that??
Strangely a few people are sick on the lead up to Christmas, think the year is finally catching up on them! I hope you get well soon Carmel.
I’ve heard great things about Written in my own Heart’s Blood, even if it’s not quite my thing. I hope you receive at least some of these books for Christmas!
My wishlist includes Amour Amour and Burying Water 🙂
Jeann recently posted…Contemporary YA Reviews #4 – Flirty Dancing by Jenny McLachlan & Red at Night by Katie McGarry
I’m not getting any books for Xmas. Le sigh. #1 and I decided to keep things low key this year after all of the money we spent on the wedding in June, plus my family won’t be making the trip. My health will just have to do!
Visions of Silver by Anne Bishop on audio
White Knight by Kelly Meade
Edged Blade by JC Daniels
A new Downside book by Stacia Kane. It has been tooooooooo long. I need some Chess and Terrible.
Melanie recently posted…2015 Audiobook Challenge Sign-ups and Goals
I hear ya on the new Downside book. Kane did recently release an anthology though… I know it’s a poor substitute, but it’s better than nothing!
Strange and ever after (something strange #3) and truthwitch (the witch lands #1) by susan Dennard
And lastly Ensnared (Splintered #3) by A.G Howard . I can’t wait how she’ll encorporate through the looking glass in the finale . Unhinged left us on such a clif hanger
I’m looking forward to Ensnared as well! The second installment was only so-so for me, but we’re going back to Wonderland for the finale. YAY!
Great choices, Carmel!
I’m trying to be good and NOT ask Santa for any books at all… Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any I feel like I have to get before the end of the year either, so I’m being boring today.
I hope you’ll feel much better! And that you’ll ace your exam on Saturday.

A book blogger who has ZERO titles on their Santa wishlist!? I never knew that such a person even existed. Hehe! Thanks for sending a few positive vibes my way. 🙂
Well since we are dreaming I would want the Complete Calvin and Hobbes collection, The Complete Far Side, and The Complete Bloom County. I believe that would keep me busy.

I hope you’ve been good this year because that’s a pretty tall order!
I am going to be a bad girl this year and ask for big gifts. Like a hard copy edition of Fistful of Charms by Kim Harrison (since the thing is near impossible to find and is extremely expensive for a book). I’d also like that whole set of novellas by Kelley Armstrong. I’ve only got the ebooks. I hope you feel better!
Tanya recently posted…Waiting On Wednesday ~ Dark Debt by Chloe Neill
I would LOVE to receive hard copies of all of Armstrong’s novellas too, but I didn’t want to appear too greedy.
No question: The Mime Order, Vision in Silver, and The Shadows (BDB, #13). Please, please, please. With a cherry on top.
Joy // Joyousreads recently posted…[472]: The Children Act by Ian McEwan
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Vision in Silver, otherwise it would have been at the top of my list for sure.
Oh, I hope you start feeling better soon, Carmel. 🙂 The first book that came to mind for me was Dragonfly in Amber. I’d also like to have Night Broken. And lastly, I’d like to have a Kelley Armstrong book but I’d have to figure out where I left off in the series. 😉 Happy Thursday!
Bookworm Brandee recently posted…**Sale Event ~ Here, Home, Hope & In the Mirror ~ Kaira Rouda**
You’re the second commenter that’s said Kelley Armstrong. I’m beginning to think that y’all are just sucking up. 😉
Dragonfly in Amber is a FABULOUS pick. Santa should definitely leave a copy under the tree for you!
You’re right, that is an easy one. Wool by Hugh Howey (from library, just finished and want to read again), the Newsflesh box set (it counts as one since it’s a set), and… Well, crap. Can’t think of another at the moment.
Leila recently posted…You Like Me, You Really Like Me! (My Readers Rock)
Aah, you snooze you lose! There will only be two books in your stocking come December 25th. 😉
Honestly I want Books 2, 3, and pre-order of Book 4 of the Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs in audio 🙂 Those are my 3!
Felicia the Geeky Blogger recently posted…ReRead Review: It Takes a Witch by Heather Blake
Nice! I just recently got caught up on that series in audio, and am reading the 4th book now. You can’t go wrong with Briggs!
Hi Carmel, I hope you feel better soon and that the work-related exams go as smoothly as possible 🙂 There are waaaay too many for me to just pick three, but that said, I have been jonesing to read the Kevin Hearne books, including “Shattered,” so I guess that would be my first one. Then I’m also jonesing for the newest Suzanne Johnson book, “Pirate’s Alley” which is coming out next year, and I would like a copy of “Clockwork Dagger” by Beth Cato to find its way under my tree 😉
Atticus & Oberon make great gifts! I haven’t read Johnson’s books, but they are on my wishlist. My very long wishlist…
Right now I would ask Santa for Dead ice by laurell K Hamilton. Now I know it doesn’t release for a few months but Santa could pre-order it for me. lol
My second pick would be The Darkest Touch by Gena Showalter. I love this series.
And third would be Son of No One by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Another favorite author of mine.
I hope you get to feeling better. I had a cold right before Thanksgiving and it just stayed holding on for about 2 weeks. Feel better fast.
Mary Kirkland recently posted…Using An Electric Tart Warmer
Urgh! Don’t tell me that! If this cold stretches out for 2 weeks I might just go INSANE. The holidays are stressful enough as it is without having to deal with all of these unpleasant symptoms. I hope Santa is good to you this Christmas!
Sorry you aren’t feeling well, I hope you feel better soon!
Great picks for books, I love the Outlander series!
Hmm, I think the new Charley Davidson book, I still haven’t picked it up yet! The last Kate Daniels book and…..hmmm, I think The Book of Ivy, I have seen a ton of good reviews for it and it sounds fantastic!
kindlemom1 recently posted…Review: Love & Other Theories by Alexis Bass
OMG! How have you NOT read the latest Charley Davidson & Kate Daniels books? I always make those two series a priority whenever new installments come out. Different strokes for different folks I guess!
I hope you feel better. Good luck getting the job!
I haven’t read Outlander yet. Hounded made my Christmas list! 🙂 Along with Among Thieves and Generation V.
Molly Mortensen recently posted…Demons at Deadnight by A&E Kirk
Hounded is still my favourite Iron Druid Chronicles book. SO GOOD!
Thanks for the well wishes. I’m not overly optimistic about the job because last week’s tests were HARD, but who knows. Maybe I surprised myself.
Oooo this is a tough question Carmel!!!! Even though it’s not possible since it doesn’t release until January, I would definitely ask for BURNED by Karen Marie Moning. That book has been a long time coming!
LOVE the illustration on Forsaken, I definitely want to pick that one up and peek inside:)
The fact that Burned’s release date got bumped so far back kinda took some of the wind out of my sails. I’m sure it’ll come back in January though.
I would love books from my favorite author Alyxandra Harvey. I need the first two books in her The Lovegrove Legacy, have ARC’s but would like the actual books.
Stormi recently posted…2015 Audiobook Challenge sign up post
That’s the thing about ARCs. I love getting ’em, but I always end up having to buy the actual book later on.
Oh this isn’t hard at all. I feel like i’d be worried Santa wouldn’t be able to find my books or would get the wrong ones so i’d just ask for a giftcard to some bookstore instead so I can roam freely and get my books 🙂
Lily recently posted…Amour Amour: Review
You have so little faith in Santa, Lily! He does check his list twice ya know! I love shopping for books though, so I don’t blame you at all for asking for a GC.
That’s a toughie, but I’ll have to go with Written on My Heart’s Blood by Diana Gabaldon, Shifting Shadows by Patricia Briggs, and Dark Skye by Kresley Cole.
Sophia Rose recently posted…Review: When We Met by AL Jackson, Molly McAdams, Tiffany King and Christina Lee
YEAH!! We’re Diana Gabaldon twinsies! *high five* I wouldn’t mind a copy of Briggs’ Shifting Shadows either, but I had to limit myself to 3. 😉
Ugh, being sick and having people over, no matter who they are can be really annoying, except when they help and take care of you!
Today I’m too damned exhausted after working night shift, so I’m failing at doing anything…
Three books I’d choose for Xmas? Cruel Beauty, Beware The Wild and Exquisite Captive!
Pili recently posted…12 Days of Lailah – Ink & Batter Lailah holiday cupcakes!!
Unfortunately, I highly doubt that my in-laws will help take care of me, they are a bit of a handful, and very loud. Thanks for stopping by after your night shift; you’re a trooper!
I am so used to one clicking ebooks, I would ask for paperback copies of Dannika Dark’s Mageri series-any 3. Just to have for my collection. Or Strayed in paperback by Amber Lynn Natusch-I already have the others in the Caged series.
Hope you feel better quick!
I can’t say that I’m surprised by your picks, Lorna. Then again, I manage your wishlist. LOL!
I don’t really know a lot of new releases since I’ve been on an almost 4-month hiatus but I’m definitely excited to get my hands on:
#1 Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop – I listened to both WiR and MoC on audio though so I think it I would have to listen to this one as well but I’ve been checking and there’s absolutely no pre-order on audible. what’s up with that???
#2 Brown-Eyed Girl by Lisa Kleypas – LK is my all-time favorite romance author. I absolutely adore her. I love this series too and this new installment has been YEARS in the making. So excited for it!
#3 Archangel’s Shadows by Nalini Singh – This one has been out for a couple of months already but considering I didn’t even have time to read it’s no wonder I haven’t gotten my hands on it yet. Maybe I shouldn’t wait for Santa and just 1-click it on Kindle. Hmmmm…
Great question Carmel! How I missed your blog! <3
Amir recently posted…Musings: When real life ruins your blogging life…
I was so shocked to see your comment, I almost fell off my chair. WELCOME BACK! Audible is horrible with pre-orders; I’m sure that Vision in Silver will show up eventually, it just might take a couple of months.
I’d love to get book 2 of the book I reviewed today, and then there are those I am waiting for to come out on PB, sighs

Way to give up without even trying. LMAO!
I agree with Melanie…I really need a new Downside book! I’m pretty sure Santa’s going to bring me Gabaldon’s AN ECHO IN THE BONE on audio since I should be finishing A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES right about Christmas Eve. And then since he’s such a good guy he can throw in WRITTEN IN MY HEART’S OWN BLOOD so I have them all 🙂
Traci recently posted…Gift Ideas for the Book Lover, #10
You are burning through that series really fast! I’m surprised because the audiobooks are loooong. I listened to the most recent one, and it took me WEEKS.
It does seem like it, but I’ve been listening to the series since August. The first few books took about 3 weeks each, but these last three have been right about a month each. They have made my commute my favorite part of the day 😉
Traci recently posted…Gift Ideas for the Book Lover, #10
Not fair, this is such a tough question! Hmm, I’d probably get books that aren’t out in the US yet – which tend to be more expensive especially if I’m buying them and having them shipped from overseas. There are quite a few of those on my list, but don’t worry, not going to bore or overwhelm you by listing them all 😛
Mogsy recently posted…Tough Traveling: Traveling Folk
For some reason I thought that the US was pretty good with foreign releases. That must get expensive after a while! I hate paying for shipping.
I’d probably go with The Falconer, Princess of Thorns and hmmm…..Heir of Fire or Waistcoats and Weaponry. It’s YA heavy but I haven’t been requesting as much YA lately and have been going with more adult so my stacks are a bit thin now in that area the past 6 months.
Tabitha (Not Yet Read) recently posted…Video Game Review: Assassins Creed: Unity
It’s important to keep your various genre stacks balanced. My YA pile is rather pathetic to be honest, but that’s intentional. Here’s hoping that Santa visits my blog to grab everyone’s wishlist. 😀
Heck,I don’t even know. I mean, there are so many books I want…hmmm, maybe the hardcover of the new Mercy Thomas book. For sure I want that, I think Santa can swing it..at least I hope he does, lols.
sharonda recently posted…#BookReview: Junglecat Honeymoon (Manattan Ten 3.5) by Lola Dodge
After reading over all of the comments, it would appear as though there are going to be LOTS of Patricia Briggs books in that big red bag. Excellent!
Court of Thorns, Ice like fire and The Heir hihihih
You only asked 3 from me…I have like a list that reaches China. HAHA
Chyna recently posted…Sorry but I’m judgemental
Well, in that case, I appreciate that you didn’t break my blog with your list. LOL!
Is it wrong that I have no clue. I’ve just started a few series that have been around for awhile (Charley Davidson series being one) so I need to catch up on them before looking for the new ones.
Kristina D recently posted…Some Thursday Randomness
You don’t have to ask for new releases; I think all seven of Darynda Jones’ books will do just fine.
Ah girl, this is tough! I have no idea, but I know that one of them would be Eona as I really want to read it. Also I need Lumatere chronicles in physical format to hug the hell out of them. Great list, girl 🙂
Tanja recently posted…Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
Asking for a book just to hug it seems like a bit of a waste to me, Tanja. You’re too funny!
I already got my books for Christmas – it’s hard for my hubs to pick out my books, so I ordered them & got them early! Autographed Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater & the Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare. I have no idea what I would pick for a 3rd choice — so many choices!!!
Tricia recently posted…These Broken Stars (Starbound #1) by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
Wow! Your husband has phenomenal taste in books! Hehe! At least he didn’t insist on wrapping them and making you wait ’til Christmas.
Hahaha! I had wanted to read them before Christmas, so I told him not to worry about wrapping. It’s been so crazy that I haven’t had a chance to read them, so I should have let him wrap them, LOL!!!
I would love to read Forsaken! But just like you I just can’t afford to splurge on those books. Even though they are pricey, it’s worth it as they have a good story and those images are great. I wish I could buy all the Subterrain press novella’s. And Forsaken is about Elenna and Clay, one of my favourite coupels of the series. I loved the glimpse we got of them and the twins in Gifted.
I hadn’t heard of the two other books you mentioned before.
Lola recently posted…Coyer Winter: goal post
I’ve only bought one of Subterranean Press’ novellas, and I think it cost me close to $50 with the shipping. I wish I could throw that kind of money around all of the time. They are so pretty!!
Mine would all be preorders because 2015 is such an enticing year! I’d ask for The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, Fairest by Marrisa Meyer, and……..
oh man I don’t know. ._.
A giftcard? Haha.
Good luck on your exams Carmel!
Amber Elise recently posted…Book Review: Crown of Midnight
I’m so done with 2014 too. Bring on next year’s new releases!!!
Thanks for the luck; I am going to need it.
I’m waiting for Shattered in paperback as well. It drives me nuts to have a mix of paperback and hardcover. I’m still a book behind anyway so I’ll manage.
I actually ended up buying most of my must-haves when doing Christmas shopping. I knew no one else would get them!
Candace recently posted…Blog Tour Review: Nero’s Fiddle by A.W. Exley & Giveaway!
I’m happy that Hearne finally got his hard cover debut, but from a collector’s point of view, it’s super annoying. It could have been worse, they could have changed the covers entirely. I hate when they do that mid-series!
It’s not so much which books cause there’s so many but more the time to read 3 books in peace. You know?! But a print book I’d like to get soon is Keri Lake’s Soul Enslaved to add to my collection. 🙂
Angela Carr recently posted…#12DaysofChristmas: The “Oh, hey, this book is fucking awesome!” List
That WOULD be nice, but I think that might be asking too much. A print copy of Lake’s latest book would be lovely!
I would also ask for some Kelley Armstrong goodies – very specific ones. I own 10/13 Women of the Otherworld novels, but they’re all old school mass market paperbacks, basically impossible to find in-stores. I confess I need my long-running series to match in height and format, especially Kelley books…so I’ve been stalking ebay for months to grab the ones that I’m missing. Santa help me!
Danya recently posted…Tough Traveling: Traveling Folk
I like all of my series books to be the same as well. I own twelve of the Vintage black WOTO books, and a hard copy of Thirteen which is acceptable. It’s the last installment, so it’s special.
Aw I hope you’re feeling better soon! So not fun ever but even more so this time of year.
My three would be…
Hrm.
The next Alyssa Alexander (I don’t think title’s been announced). I just loved the 2nd book in her historical series and can’t wait to try another.
Erika Kellys’ I Want You To Want Me that’s out in July. Just finished the Jan one and it was so fun I was ready for the next. Right. Then.
And Roni Loren’s Call On Me. It’s another I read the Jan release and now I NEED that July release. lol

(No title) Hidden Legacy #2 by Ilona Andrews
The Return (Titan #1) by Jennifer L Armentrout

I just started listening to Burn for Me this past weekend, and I have a feeling that book 2 would have made the cut had I asked this question next week. Hehe!
My boyfriend’s sister asked me this question and I had a really hard time choosing. I think I could only think of two lol. Fireborn – Keri Arthur, and Alice in Zombieland – Gena Showalter were my picks 🙂
It’s tough when you’re put on the spot like that because it’s a question that requires a lot of though, at least for bookworms like us. LOL!
There’s only one actually.. just a boxset of Harry Potter and I’ll be the happiest bookworm in the world. It’s so hard to find it here in Philippines. 🙁
