Question: Which Three Books Would You Ask Santa For?

WeeklyQuestion

I’m sick, my in-laws are visiting this weekend, and I have to spend yet another Saturday writing exams for a job that I am applying for (at least this time it’s only 3 hours instead of 7!), so I’m keeping it simple today.

My first pick is a no-brainer because it’s by my favourite author, and I just love the limited editions that Subterranean Press publishes of her novellas. The full-colour illustrations by Xaviere Daumarie are incredible, and I like that they are numbed & signed. Unfortunately that also means that they are rather expensive, and splurging on Kelley Armstrong’s FORSAKEN isn’t in the cards right now, however if Santa wants to leave a copy under my tree that’d be a-ok with me. Granted, I am cheating a bit because it doesn’t hit shelves until January 31st, but the big guy is magic, so I’m sure he can manage.

#2 is WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD by Dianna Gabaldon. I purchased the audiobook back in June, and Davina Porter’s narration helped me keep my sanity during the final weeks of wedding prep. I already own all of the previous installments, and would like to give this one a home on my shelves as well. My final pick is SHATTERED by Kevin Hearne because again, I need it to top off my collection. I borrowed a copy from a friend when it was originally released, although I might hold-off until it’s available in paperback to stay consistent.

  1. The up side, you can use being sick to avoid the in-laws as you surely wouldn’t want to make them ill. Good, right?
Since Christmas is a magical, miracle time, the books I want under my tree are all future releases but good old Santa might make it happen.
    1. Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop – most of my blogger friends have read this one and it’s killing me not to ask questions!!
    2. Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews – well because Kate…Curran
    3. Cast in Honor by Michelle Sagara – This series just fascinates me
Come on Santa, I’ve been a very good girl!!
    Seriously, hope you feel better!!

  2. Strangely a few people are sick on the lead up to Christmas, think the year is finally catching up on them! I hope you get well soon Carmel.

I’ve heard great things about Written in my own Heart’s Blood, even if it’s not quite my thing. I hope you receive at least some of these books for Christmas!

My wishlist includes Amour Amour and Burying Water 🙂
Jeann recently posted…Contemporary YA Reviews #4 – Flirty Dancing by Jenny McLachlan & Red at Night by Katie McGarry

    • I’m not getting any books for Xmas. Le sigh. #1 and I decided to keep things low key this year after all of the money we spent on the wedding in June, plus my family won’t be making the trip. My health will just have to do!

  3. Rogier (roro)

Strange and ever after (something strange #3) and truthwitch (the witch lands #1) by susan Dennard

And lastly Ensnared (Splintered #3) by A.G Howard . I can’t wait how she’ll encorporate through the looking glass in the finale . Unhinged left us on such a clif hanger

    • A book blogger who has ZERO titles on their Santa wishlist!? I never knew that such a person even existed. Hehe! Thanks for sending a few positive vibes my way. 🙂

    • You’re the second commenter that’s said Kelley Armstrong. I’m beginning to think that y’all are just sucking up. 😉

Dragonfly in Amber is a FABULOUS pick. Santa should definitely leave a copy under the tree for you!

  4. Hi Carmel, I hope you feel better soon and that the work-related exams go as smoothly as possible 🙂 There are waaaay too many for me to just pick three, but that said, I have been jonesing to read the Kevin Hearne books, including “Shattered,” so I guess that would be my first one. Then I’m also jonesing for the newest Suzanne Johnson book, “Pirate’s Alley” which is coming out next year, and I would like a copy of “Clockwork Dagger” by Beth Cato to find its way under my tree 😉

  5. Right now I would ask Santa for Dead ice by laurell K Hamilton. Now I know it doesn’t release for a few months but Santa could pre-order it for me. lol

My second pick would be The Darkest Touch by Gena Showalter. I love this series.

And third would be Son of No One by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Another favorite author of mine.

I hope you get to feeling better. I had a cold right before Thanksgiving and it just stayed holding on for about 2 weeks. Feel better fast.

    • Urgh! Don’t tell me that! If this cold stretches out for 2 weeks I might just go INSANE. The holidays are stressful enough as it is without having to deal with all of these unpleasant symptoms. I hope Santa is good to you this Christmas!

  6. Sorry you aren’t feeling well, I hope you feel better soon!

Great picks for books, I love the Outlander series!

Hmm, I think the new Charley Davidson book, I still haven’t picked it up yet! The last Kate Daniels book and…..hmmm, I think The Book of Ivy, I have seen a ton of good reviews for it and it sounds fantastic!
kindlemom1 recently posted…Review: Love & Other Theories by Alexis Bass

    • OMG! How have you NOT read the latest Charley Davidson & Kate Daniels books? I always make those two series a priority whenever new installments come out. Different strokes for different folks I guess!

    • Hounded is still my favourite Iron Druid Chronicles book. SO GOOD!

Thanks for the well wishes. I’m not overly optimistic about the job because last week’s tests were HARD, but who knows. Maybe I surprised myself.

  7. Oooo this is a tough question Carmel!!!! Even though it’s not possible since it doesn’t release until January, I would definitely ask for BURNED by Karen Marie Moning. That book has been a long time coming!

LOVE the illustration on Forsaken, I definitely want to pick that one up and peek inside:)

  8. Oh this isn’t hard at all. I feel like i’d be worried Santa wouldn’t be able to find my books or would get the wrong ones so i’d just ask for a giftcard to some bookstore instead so I can roam freely and get my books 🙂
    Lily recently posted…Amour Amour: Review

    • You have so little faith in Santa, Lily! He does check his list twice ya know! I love shopping for books though, so I don’t blame you at all for asking for a GC.

    • Unfortunately, I highly doubt that my in-laws will help take care of me, they are a bit of a handful, and very loud. Thanks for stopping by after your night shift; you’re a trooper!

  9. I am so used to one clicking ebooks, I would ask for paperback copies of Dannika Dark’s Mageri series-any 3. Just to have for my collection. Or Strayed in paperback by Amber Lynn Natusch-I already have the others in the Caged series.

    Hope you feel better quick!

  10. I don’t really know a lot of new releases since I’ve been on an almost 4-month hiatus but I’m definitely excited to get my hands on:

#1 Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop – I listened to both WiR and MoC on audio though so I think it I would have to listen to this one as well but I’ve been checking and there’s absolutely no pre-order on audible. what’s up with that???
#2 Brown-Eyed Girl by Lisa Kleypas – LK is my all-time favorite romance author. I absolutely adore her. I love this series too and this new installment has been YEARS in the making. So excited for it!
#3 Archangel’s Shadows by Nalini Singh – This one has been out for a couple of months already but considering I didn’t even have time to read it’s no wonder I haven’t gotten my hands on it yet. Maybe I shouldn’t wait for Santa and just 1-click it on Kindle. Hmmmm…

Great question Carmel! How I missed your blog! <3

    • I was so shocked to see your comment, I almost fell off my chair. WELCOME BACK! Audible is horrible with pre-orders; I’m sure that Vision in Silver will show up eventually, it just might take a couple of months.

  11. I agree with Melanie…I really need a new Downside book! I’m pretty sure Santa’s going to bring me Gabaldon’s AN ECHO IN THE BONE on audio since I should be finishing A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES right about Christmas Eve. And then since he’s such a good guy he can throw in WRITTEN IN MY HEART’S OWN BLOOD so I have them all 🙂

Not fair, this is such a tough question! Hmm, I’d probably get books that aren’t out in the US yet – which tend to be more expensive especially if I’m buying them and having them shipped from overseas. There are quite a few of those on my list, but don’t worry, not going to bore or overwhelm you by listing them all 😛
Mogsy recently posted…Tough Traveling: Traveling Folk

    • It’s important to keep your various genre stacks balanced. My YA pile is rather pathetic to be honest, but that’s intentional. Here’s hoping that Santa visits my blog to grab everyone’s wishlist. 😀

      • Hahaha! I had wanted to read them before Christmas, so I told him not to worry about wrapping. It’s been so crazy that I haven’t had a chance to read them, so I should have let him wrap them, LOL!!!

  13. I would love to read Forsaken! But just like you I just can’t afford to splurge on those books. Even though they are pricey, it’s worth it as they have a good story and those images are great. I wish I could buy all the Subterrain press novella’s. And Forsaken is about Elenna and Clay, one of my favourite coupels of the series. I loved the glimpse we got of them and the twins in Gifted.
I hadn’t heard of the two other books you mentioned before.
Lola recently posted…Coyer Winter: goal post

    • I’ve only bought one of Subterranean Press’ novellas, and I think it cost me close to $50 with the shipping. I wish I could throw that kind of money around all of the time. They are so pretty!!

    • I’m happy that Hearne finally got his hard cover debut, but from a collector’s point of view, it’s super annoying. It could have been worse, they could have changed the covers entirely. I hate when they do that mid-series!

  14. I would also ask for some Kelley Armstrong goodies – very specific ones. I own 10/13 Women of the Otherworld novels, but they’re all old school mass market paperbacks, basically impossible to find in-stores. I confess I need my long-running series to match in height and format, especially Kelley books…so I’ve been stalking ebay for months to grab the ones that I’m missing. Santa help me!
Danya recently posted…Tough Traveling: Traveling Folk

    • I like all of my series books to be the same as well. I own twelve of the Vintage black WOTO books, and a hard copy of Thirteen which is acceptable. It’s the last installment, so it’s special.

  15. Aw I hope you’re feeling better soon! So not fun ever but even more so this time of year.

    My three would be…

    Hrm.

The next Alyssa Alexander (I don’t think title’s been announced). I just loved the 2nd book in her historical series and can’t wait to try another.

Erika Kellys’ I Want You To Want Me that’s out in July. Just finished the Jan one and it was so fun I was ready for the next. Right. Then.

And Roni Loren’s Call On Me. It’s another I read the Jan release and now I NEED that July release. lol

    • Thanks for sharing your 3 picks, and for the well wishes. I’m feeling much better now, thank goodness because I told #1 that I would help out with Xmas dinner.

  16. My boyfriend’s sister asked me this question and I had a really hard time choosing. I think I could only think of two lol. Fireborn – Keri Arthur, and Alice in Zombieland – Gena Showalter were my picks 🙂
