Best of 2013 Audiobook Blog Hop

Happy New Year! πŸ™‚ It is time for the Best of 2013 Audiobook Blog Hop where we highlight our favorite 3 audiobooks from 2013. This hop is hosted by The Book Nympho, Hot Listens, and Geeky Bloggers Book Blog. It runs from Jan 1 2014 to Jan 15 2014.

Unlike the hosts of this hop, I only listen to a handful of audiobooks a year, which means when it came time to come up with my three fav’s it was pretty slim pickings. LOL I did however branch out a little more in 2013 so at least I had a better variety to chose from than last year where I pretty much exclusively listened to 2 or 3 series’. Anyway… let’s get on with the hop!

My Life as a White Trash Zombie

Written by Diana Rowland & Narrated by Allison McLemore

Thoughts: I absolutely adored listening to this one; Allison McLemore is the perfect narrator to read Angel Crawford’s POV. She nails the heroine’s snarky personality and adds just the right amount of southern twang to her voice to accurately convey the “trailer trash” stereotype.
Magic Rises

Written by Ilona Andrews & Narrated by RenΓ©e Raudman
MagicRises Thoughts: I have yet to read a KATE DANIELS book because I fell in love with RenΓ©e Raudman’s narration after listening to the first installment. She brings Ilona Andrews’ world to life with her sarcastic tone and badass persona.

Hounded

Written by Kevin Hearne by Luke Daniels
Hounded Thoughts: This is one of those series’ that’s been on my wishlist forever and when I finally started it I couldn’t help but kick myself for having waited so long. I love Luke Daniels as Atticus; he’s great with the accents and I especially love when he reads Oberon’s (Irish Wolfhound) POV. I actually found a cute little Xmas message from the dog that I thought I’d share!

  2. I think I’m going to be in the same boat as you when I finally pull Hounded out of my TBL stack and listen to it: I’ll be kicking myself for waiting so long. I’ve heard nothing but praise for this series in audio.

  3. Listening to Kevin Hearne’s The Iron Druid Chronicles in 2013 was an audio experience standout – loved it! Thanks for linking Oberon’s Holiday Message. πŸ™‚

  4. Oh I have White Trash Zombie downloaded but haven’t listened to it yet. I’m glad to hear it’s a good one! I’m listening to Justine Eyre right now, and although she didn’t make my top 3, she is really good. I was leary at first with her, but she has really grown on me with each of the Alien Huntress books I’ve listened to.

  5. I just finished Jennifer Estep’s Spider’s Bite yesterday and OMG! I LOVED it! I have Web of Lies all cued up to start tomorrow morning. Thank you, thank you, thank you for getting me to give it a try πŸ˜€

  6. I plan to read more audio books in 2014. I loved My Life as a White Trash Zombie and the second installment, but I haven’t listened to them. I have the first book in the Kate Daniels series on audio and am looking forward to it!

  7. I totally forgot to list my fave in my first comment (duh!). Since I’ve only just started audios it has to be Web of Lies by Jennifer Estep, book 3 was a bit tough to get through for some reason but I plan on continuing the series. πŸ™‚

  8. I haven’t read any of these – thought Iona Lewis is on my TBR for 2014 for sure! It’s been on hold for way too long. My favorite narrator is Amanda Ronconi – can’t pick just one book honestly.

  9. YvonneJ

One of my favorite 2013 releases was Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy by Helen Fielding narrated by Samantha Bond.

  10. Alysia

I loved Wonder and A Vintage Affair. The Kitchen House was great too. Ohh so many!!!!

  11. Stephanie H.

My favorite read this year was Ever After by Kim Harrison! My husband and I always by both the audio and the hardback of this series. Marguerite Gavin does a great job!

  12. January

I finally listened to Looking For Alaska by John Green and loved it! Thanks for the giveaway! πŸ˜€

I tend to read more than audio, but I did read a few this year. One of my favorites listens was Janet Evanovich’s Explosive Eighteen; this was a wonderful story with a great narrator. I also listed to a few of the first books in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton and this narrator was also very good; my trial ran out for that series so I was only able to listen to the first four or five in the series so I cannot say how later versions play out, but it was great fun revisiting and old favorite that I have been reading for years on audio. Thank you for participating in the fun!

Thanks for the giveaway! I loved Iced by Karen Marie Moning. The male narrator is great!

  15. Oldies by Julie Garwood, I went with the safe route and listened to authors I loved reading, needed someone I trusted and once I found a good author/narrator combo punch I was hooked so I def want to listen to more in 2014.

  16. Oh dear…. I just fell in love with Oberon! Thanks for posting his holiday message. Bummer. My library doesn’t have this series in audio. I may actually have to buy it. πŸ™‚

  17. all three of your picks are on my TBL (to be listened) pile. I’ve seen others mentions some of the same ones so I definitely have to try them out! One of my faves this year was Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian

  18. Terri P.

“Kitty in the underworld” by Carrie Vaughn is one of the top books for me. I have listened to all the books in the series. ‘Dark and Lonely Place’ by Edna Buchannan a crime novel. One of my favorite series of books is Lisa Klepas Friday Harbor books.
Christmas at Friday harbor and the last one Crystal Cove I enjoyed them all.

  19. I have only listen to a handful of audiobooks and none that were release in 2013. The ones I have listened to I really enjoyed and would love to listen to more this year. Two of my favorites are The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst and Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers.
