Another year has come and gone which means that it’s time to participate in Two Chicks On Books, Fiktshun and Magical Urban Fantasy Reads annual TOP 10 OF 2013 week long meme. Not only do I love lists but these posts are easy to put together and schedule during the holidays so that I can spend time with my family. These books weren’t necessarily published this year just read. Enjoy!

10. My Life As A White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland
I loved everything about this book from the snarky heroine, to the zombie story line to the awesome narration by Allison McLemore. The second installment wasn’t quite as good as this one; but if you’ve yet to try a zombie novel, this is definitely a good place to start!
09. Oath Bound by Rachel Vincence
The conclusion to Rachel Vincent’s UNBOUND series was absolutely stellar. I’ve been a fan of this author’s ever since I read her debut book, STRAY, back in 2007. She has a knack for writing Urban Fantasy with detailed world-building and badass protagonists.
08. Kiss of Steel by Bec McMaster
This was my first ever Steampunk read and I absolutely adored it. I love McMaster’s romanticized writing style and, the gadgets and fashions that make up her LONDON STEAMPUNK universe are incredibly unique. I quickly devoured all three installments in this series and have since added this author to my auto-buy list.
07. Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane
Chess Putnam and I didn’t exactly hit it off right away but Kane’s heroine slowly grew on me until I found myself utterly and irrevocably addicted to this series. I’ve listened to all of these books in audio and am anxiously counting down the days ’til the next installment. DOWNSIDE GHOSTS is a must for Urban Fantasy lovers.
06. Crave the Darkness by Amanda Bonilla
It’s worth mentioning that this was my first read of the year and that this book stuck with me throughout all of 2013 to wind up on my top 10 list. I love Darian and Ty and, the SHAEDE ASSASSIN universe. Bonilla’s talent for writing action-packed story lines and kickass chicks is undeniable. I highly recommend this series!
05. Winterblaze by Kristen Callihan
This one was a toss up between WINTERBLAZE and SHADOWDANCE; both books deserve to be on this list but I forced myself to pick just one. I have yet to rate a DARKEST LONDON book under 5 stars. Callihan’s novels rock. Period. If you haven’t discovered this series yet, then you’re seriously missing out!
04. Binding the Shadows by Jenn Bennett
No “best books I’ve read” list would be complete without Jenn Bennett. She’s one of my all-time favourite authors; the ARCADIA BELL series is packed full of awesome magic, phenomenal characters and engaging plot lines. And, with a new series on the way, I have a feeling that next year I’ll have a hard time picking just one to feature in my top 10.
03. Hounded by Kevin Hearne
I was a late comer to the IRON DRUID CHRONICLES but I more than made up for that by inhaling the first 3 installments back-to-back. I like that it’s written from a male POV and listening to Luke Daniels narrate for Oberon, the Irish Wolfhound, is just pure awesomeness.
02. The Spider by Jennifer Estep
I only discovered this series late last year but within 6 months I’d listened to 7 ELEMENTAL ASSASSIN audiobooks. Gin Blanco is one of my all-time favourite heroines and Lauren Fortgang is perfectly suited to narrate for her. If ever Estep stops writing these novels, I just might cry. I ♥ them so much!
01. Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews
This one’s a no-brainer and probably on at least every other top 10 list of 2013. This book needs no justification or introduction and, if you haven’t discovered the KATE DANIELS series yet… shame on you!

Amazing list! To be honest, I’ve read only Winterblaze & I liked it, but I’ve heard great things about all of these series, but I’m yet to try them.
The only other series I’ve read & totally love is Downside Ghosts, but I’m yet to read Sacrificial Magic & Chasing Magic, I’m hoping to re-read books 1-3 in 2014, and then finally read these two. I’m also hoping to finally get to most of these in 2014 🙂
We have Winterblaze in common. And I had Magic Rises on my honorable mention list. White Trash Zombie & Chasing Magic would have made my list too but I read them last year. LOL
Hehe yeah, I figured that when I saw your list. I still can’t believe that you only gave MAGIC RISES an honorable mention. WTH is wrong with you??? That book kicked ass!
I haven’t read any of the books on your list, but I will definitely be looking some of them up. I do have book 1 in the Unbound series by Rachel Vincent on my bookshelf! Guess I really need to read it huh!
Awesome list I really need to start reading more adult books! Thanks so much for taking part in the Top 10 of 2013! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your Top 10’s 😀
Hugs,

I love the Iron Druid Chronicles! I still have to read the Spider .
My Top 10 Reads of 2013
I think my next listen will be book 4. I LOVE Oberon!

My Top 10 of 2013 List
Happy holidays!
It sounds like you have your work cut out for you in the new year!

At least it’s only a trilogy which makes it way more manageable.
Bookmarked this because I need to check out just about all of these books more! Good looking list from what I can see though 🙂
They are all series books so you’ll be working on this list for a while. 😉
I really enjoyed Kiss of Steel even though I don’t normally like PNR.
I find the Steampunk aspect helps break-up the PNR elements.
Awesome list I really need to start reading more adult books! Thanks so much for taking part in the Top 10 of 2013! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your Top 10’s 😀

I was thinking the same thing while checking out everyone’s YA lists. Thanks for hosting!
Nice List! I do agree on the Jenn Bennett and Ilona Andrews book, and I have read the Amanda Bonilla series. I am so behind on Jennifer Estep though.
Thanks! Unfortunately, it’s impossible to stay on top of every worthwhile series. o_O
