Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges...
Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough, her lover, Vlad, has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her.
Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity...
Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity.
Vlad is one of my top paranormal crushes so whenever I pick-up a Night Prince book my expectations are exceedingly high. After having nailed the first installment, Once Burned, I was anxious to see whether Frost would maintain her momentum with this series. Well, let’s just say that my thoughts on the matter are a resounding YES! Correction, make that a HELL YES! There’s great character growth on both the Vlad and Leila fronts, the pacing and action are fan-freaking-tastic and, the sex scenes are some of the best that Jeanine has ever written.
Going into this novel my thoughts were abuzz with all things Vlad so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Leila’s POV in Twice Tempted. In the earlier chapters of this book she ends up going off on her own after a spat with Tepesh and this allows readers to spend some quality time with just her. I loved how she stuck to her guns, refused to settle and actually had the courage to walk away from Vlad. I also like how contrary her character is; she’s capable of wielding immense power and yet, she’s still only human. One minute she’s suffering a nosebleed from using her telekinetic abilities too much and the next, she’s giving Dracula a run for his money in the scary don’t-mess-with-me department.
Vlad is absolutely fabulous in this installment and the fact that Jeaniene only gives us brief glimpses of him early on made my anticipation all the more torturous. I was a little disappointed by how quickly he gave into Leila’s demands but then again, when you’re centuries old you tend to know what you want. I was happy with how Frost developed his character because even though he does own up to his feelings, they in no way diminish his alpha male status. He’s still Vlad the Impaler. No question about it.
The story is entertaining with plenty of intrigue that’s sure to keep you reading late into the night. And if that doesn’t do it, long time fans of Jeaniene Frost have anxiously been waiting for her to top the infamous chapter 32 and yes, she’s finally done it! I also loved Cat’s cameo in this book; it was cute and managed to capture her character’s mischievous nature in only a couple of sentences.
I can’t believe that I’ve been waiting 9 months for more Vlad and that already, a day after Twice Tempted’s release, I’m stuck waiting some more! This book has it all in spades: gory action, fiery romance and exquisite storytelling. This is vampire fiction at its finest.
My Review |
Recommendation: | Great for action junkies who can’t resist bad boys and kick ass chicks. |
Like this, like that: | The Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall and the Sweetblood series by Laurie London. |
Great review, Carmel! I, too, love Vlad and cannot wait to read this book. I’ve had it for a couple of weeks, but I haven’t yet had the chance to read it. Jeaniene Frost always has a way of pulling me back into her stories!
I have a bunch of books in my queue too but I can always find time for Jeaniene Frost!!
Love the review Carmel. I’ve been looking forward to Twice Tempted since the end of Once Burned but I have a couple others that I needed to read first. BUT, after your review, I think I might be pushing it up….especially if Jeaniene topped Chapter 32! LOL.
I was in the middle of another book when this one came in the mail so I put the first one aside for a bit. LOL
“This is vampire fiction at its finest.” YES!!!
I get annoyed with most vamp books after a while but NEVER Frost’s.
Doesn’t this book just make you want to go on and on about how awesome it is?? I had to force myself not to write a 1000+ word review for it 🙂
I’ve been working on writing shorter reviews lately and I think I made out fairly well with this one. Hehe
I really can’t wait to read this! I hope I like it better than the first book! I kinda have a feeling that I will after reading a lot of different reviews! 🙂
I really enjoyed the first book too so it’s hard to say but I’ll cross my fingers for you!
*screams like a fangirl* Vlad, i adore him and early reviews of book one gave me cold feet, since i didn’t want anything to ruin my love of Vlad..you my dear have me grabbing them both!
These books DO NOT ruin Vlad if anything, they make him even more amazing!
OOoh great review! I look forward to reading this one as well! Will have to wait til Saturday when I get to the bookstore since it’s no longer nearby. 🙁 But it will definitely be on top of my TBR pile…right after I get to some neglected review books.
Looking forward to it! Especially seeing how she tops Chapter 32 after so many books!
OHH! I’m excited!
Loved it too! I loved Twice Tempted even more than book 1, Jeaniene Frost is my hero 🙂 Book Savvy Babe
