Stomp VS Romp hosted by Rabid Reads & The Book Nympho

Thanks, Rabid Reads, for inviting Santiago from Seduced By Blood (book #4 in the Sweetblood series) to Romp versus Stomp. This is Laurie and *I’m* thrilled to be here, but I’m afraid he’s a little pissed off.

If you’re familiar with Santiago, you know he’s not very patient and he often has a bad attitude. For one, he hates “internet sissy shit” and refused to let me interview him. And secondly, he’s not a particularly good conversationalist anyway. I tried to keep him in line as best I could, but I apologize in advance for any trouble or hurt feelings he may cause. The following was all his idea…not mine, but it’s the only way I could get him to participate.

Santiago’s cell phone vibrates and he glances at the screen. When he sees who is calling, he scowls, shoves it back into his pocket and continues his surveillance of the Cascade Hills subdivision.

To the casual observer, it’s a normal enough neighborhood of modest sized homes with two car garages and well-maintained lawns. But to the two vampire Guardians pressed against the brick entry sign, the third house on the left is a killing ground.

Santiago glances around the quiet, shadow-filled streets. The residents would be shocked to know that a) vampires are real, b) evil Darkbloods live in the third house—the one with a thin layer of moss on the roof, and c) a missing sweetblood human was killed in the basement last night, his blood siphoned off to be sold on the vampire black market.

“I’ll keep an eye on it, if you want to return the call,” Jackson says, fingering his Dragon blade. “We have plenty of time since all the Darkbloods aren’t home yet.”

Moonlight glints off the silver, reminding Santiago of his own weapon, Misery, strapped under his jacket. Both knives will spill blood tonight.

“Not necessary. I’ll talk to Roxy later.”

Jackson narrows his eyes. “Roxy? Why are you ignoring a call from her? What if she’s calling about—?”

“It has nothing to do with that,” he snaps back. What goes on between Roxy and Santiago was none of Jackson’s business. But then it occurs to him that his friend might think they’re fighting, so he decides to elaborate further. “She wants me to appear on some stupid online blog and she keeps hounding me about it.”

“A blog? Stupid?” It’s obvious from Jackson’s tone that he’s pissed, but Santiago couldn’t give a rip. Because the guy’s fiancé runs a very popular paranormal blog, he thinks connecting with other like minded-people on the internet is cool.

Frankly, it’s a goddamn waste of time.

“What’s the name of the blog?” Jackson asks cautiously. “What do they want you to talk about?” “Rabid Reads and The Book Nympho. The title is romp versus stomp.”

“Nympho?” Jackson’s eyes light up and he cracks a silly grin. “Romp? You mean, like sex?”

“Yes,” Santiago answers begrudgingly.

“Why the hell would you turn down talking about sex?”

Santiago can feel his blood pressure rising and they’ve only been hidden in the shadows for ten minutes. Where’s a Darkblood diversion when you need one? Until Jackson met Arianna, he was a total man-whore. Hell, it wouldn’t surprise Santiago to learn that the guy has sex videos posted online somewhere.

“They want me to do the stomp post. Not the sex post.”

Just then, a car slows down and turns into the subdivision. The faintly rancid scent of an all-blood drinker permeates the cool night air.

Bingo. Darkbloods.

Santiago pulls out Misery, and the two Guardians silently shadow move toward the third house on the left.

“Bummer,” Jackson whispers, right behind him. “But then, with names like rabid and nympho, how can you go wrong?”
