The Rules: Choose a cover (or two, or three), preferably new-ish, and share what you like about it. Grab my graphic or don’t (just so long as you link back). I’ll be posting Cover Love every Monday but feel free to post yours on whatever day works best for you.

I like that the artist went back to Merit’s go-to leather pants. I’m not as big of a fan of the jeans featured on Biting Cold
I’m a sucker for the red & black combo and I LOVE the title!
I like that this cover features Cadogan House in the background. |
House Rules Chicagoland Vampires #7 by Chloe Neill February 2013
  |
In a city full of vampires, trouble never sleeps.
At the tender age of 27, Merit became a sword-wielding vampire. Since then, she’s become the protector of her House, watched Chicago nearly burn to the ground, and seen her Master fall and rise. Now she’ll see her mettle—and her metal —tested like never before.
It started with two . . . Two rogues vanishing without a trace. Someone is targeting Chicago’s vampires, and anyone could be next. With their house in peril, Merit and her Master, the centuries old Ethan Sullivan, must race to stop the disappearances. But as they untangle a web of secret alliances and ancient evils, they realize their foe is more familiar, and more powerful, than they could have ever imagined. |

I’m obsessed with anything that’s even remotely related to Little Red Riding Hood (hence the theme of my blog) so my reasons for loving this cover should be fairly obvious
I like how simple the artwork is. I guess they did this so that it’d fit with all of the stories in this anthology. Good call!
The castle in the background is awesome. Who doesn’t love a fairy tale castle? |

Sacrificial Oath by Terri Rochenski
An impetuous act unwittingly makes Alesuela the fulfillment of the Sovereign’s Blood Oath to their Goddess. In five days, she’ll be forced to make the greatest choice of her life: become the virginal sacrifice already promised, or force the man she loves most to die in her place.
With an impossible choice in front of her, she searches for ways to undo the oath, and in her quest, finds not everything in her life is as she expects.

I like the graphic/anime look to this cover. I don’t come across many of these.
I like the overall Japanese theme. It’s nicely done and fits well with the blurb.
Is that a griffin in the background? He looks FIERCE! |
Stormdancer The Lotus War #1 by Jay Kristoff September 18, 2012
   |
A DYING LAND The Shima Imperium is verging on the brink of environmental collapse; decimated by clockwork industrialization and the machine-worshippers of the Lotus Guild. The skies are red as blood, land choked with toxic pollution, wildlife ravaged by mass extinctions.
AN IMPOSSIBLE QUEST The hunters of the imperial court are charged by their Shōgun to capture a thunder tiger—a legendary beast, half-eagle, half-tiger. But any fool knows thunder tigers have been extinct for more than a century, and the price of failing the Shōgun is death.
A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL Yukiko is a child of the Fox clan, possessed of a hidden gift that would see her executed by the Lotus Guild. Accompanying her father on the Shōgun’s hunt, she finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in Shima’s last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled thunder tiger for company. Even though she can hear his thoughts, even though she saved his life, all she knows for certain is he’d rather see her dead than help her.
But together, the pair will form an indomitable friendship, and rise to challenge the might of an empire. |
