Succubus Dreams is an emotionally draining, unexpectedly insightful book about love, death, and everything in between. Elisabeth’s narration is, as usual, flawless. She is Georgina Kincaid! The ending absolutely devastated me but, I have faith in Richelle Mead. All is not lost! Inspite of the brutal curve ball that gets thrown at readers, Succubus Dreams is the best installment yet!
After reading the back blurb, I expected another comical yet sizzling addition to the Georgina Kincaid series. The first half of this book definitely delivers on both those fronts. The preposterousness of one succubus trying to teach another how to pick-up men struck me from the get go. Georgina’s not exactly the patient, mentoring type; so I was eager to see what sort of havoc Tawny was going to stir up. Mead did not disappoint! Saying that Kincaid’s methods are unconventional is the biggest understatement of the year. She tries everything to get the newbie laid but to no avail. I didn’t expect that a tall, big boobed, blonde barbie-type woman would have such problems hooking up!
The weirdest yet cutest couple in paranormal romance are at it again! I’m head over heels in love with Seth. Talk about the sweetest guy on the face of the planet! Although, his relationship with Georgina takes a serious turn in Succubus Dreams and never really bounces back. Their talks are incredibly moving, astoundingly deep and will leave you with the urge to reach into their world and shake some sense into these two love birds. You are going to cry at least once while reading this book. Guaranteed! There’s once scene that I’m having trouble shaking. It’s just so… sad. Absolutely brilliant writing on Richelle’s part but, WHY!? Why did she have to devastate us like that? I’m still not completely over it. Can you tell?
A new character by the name on Dante is introduced and I thoughroughly enjoyed his story. Admittedly, I spent a good chunk of the book despising him but after learning why he is the way he is and witnessing his conversations with Georgina; I take every negative thing I thought about him back. He’s definitely not an angel like Seth but there’s something equally as charming about a tortured soul. There’s also a second love story between Vincent and Yasmine that’s as tragic as Georgina and Seth’s. Even Mead’s witty humour won’t be able to distract you from how sad this book really is. Apparently Richelle doesn’t believe in happily ever after for her characters. Well, not yet anyway.
I was pleasantly surprised by Mead’s broad spectrum writing in this third installment. Georgina’s trademark blunt, sarcastic charm is ever present and one of the main reasons why I love this series so much. But, the emotional depth that’s demonstrated by several of the characters in Succubus Dreams was unexpected yet remarkably well done. I’m hoping that Succubus Heart has a lighter tone though because I don’t think that I can take two heartbreaking books in a row! Succubus Dreams is my favorite and least favorite novel in this series so far. Try to figure that one out!

I couldn’t shake this book for weeks!! It totally broke my heart!! And I don’t know how much lightness you’ll get in the next one, but it’s just as amazing. Can’t wait for you to read it!! 🙂
