A simple mission becomes a fight for survival in this fantastic instalment in the Her Angel series.

A guardian angel dedicated to his duty, Marcus will do whatever Heaven asks of him, but even his loyalty has its limits. When his superior orders him to gain Amelia’s trust through seduction, Marcus starts to question his mission and his feelings for the beautiful woman he has watched over since her birth.

Amelia has gone from one bad relationship to another, so when a gorgeous guy moves in next door looking like Mr Right, she hopes he doesn’t turn out to be another black knight in disguise. But there’s more to Marcus than meets the eye, and when he rescues her from three demonic men, Amelia is thrust into his nightmarish world—a world where God and the Devil exist, and only one angel can save her from death—Marcus, the angel she’s falling in love with.

On the run from demonic angels and the Devil himself, aided by Marcus’s angel friends and their amazing women, fighting for survival against the odds, Marcus and Amelia discover a love that will last forever.

A love so strong it will shake Heaven and Hell.

I’m happy to report that Felicity E. Heaton has delivered yet another fantastic paranormal romance read. Her consistent writing, vivid descriptions and toe curling romp scenes make her out to be one of my most favorite authors in this genre. Pair all of those remarkable factors with solid story telling and her latest book, Her Guardian Angel, packs on hell of a punch! Oddly enough, neither of the two main characters earned a spot in that special place in my heart this time around. That’s not too say that I didn’t enjoy them but I absolutely adored one of the sidekicks! I hope that he merits his own book sometime in the near future. Stay tuned for some gushing action later on in my review!

There wasn’t an abundance of steam in this read which surprised me because I’ve come to expect it from Heaton’s books. However, sometimes quality is more important than quantity and that couldn’t have been more true in this instance. I counted a total of two full-out sessions in Her Guardian Angel (yeah I counted, judge away!) and they were towards the beginning of the book. One of them occurs in a dreamlike state and it was absolutely phenomenal! The laws of physics are more malleable in this alternate reality and Felicity definitely uses that fact to her advantage! There’s the promise of sex in the air for the bulk of this novel but a lot of it is centered around anticipation instead of the act itself. I found the plotline of this book to be a lot more concrete than my previous experiences with her writing. Heaton had the romance aspect down pat pretty much from the get-go but now her story weaving skills are catching up and boy what a treat that is!

The plot line is engaging, imaginative and complex. Normally the story seems to be somewhat of a side thought in the majority paranormal romances but that’s not the case here. Felicity’s world of angels and demons is vast and intricate. The chain of events that unfurls in Her Guardian Angel is unpredictable and captivating. I have a hard time swallowing most stories that revolve around angels due to either their preachiness or unrealistic angelic portrayals but this one drew me in hook, line and sinker.

Amelia and Marcus are pretty standard order as far as protagonists go. There wasn’t anything that really made them stand out in my opinion. They’re still solid characters and I enjoyed learning more about them but there wasn’t really a wow factor to them. Apollyon on the other hand was pure awesomeness. He’s the original angel of death who’s since quit his post because he found true love. Although, his duty to Heaven will never really truly be over. They can still call on him at any time and he can not say no. I’m guessing that this guy is pretty much invincible. Apollyon is one of those rare beings who can travel to any realm and who’s power knows next to no limit. After living such an existence for millenia he’s gotten pretty cocky over the years. I suppose that I would be too! I don’t want to get into it too much, but there was just something about him that flat out did it for me. He’s the ultimate bad boy who just so happens to be an angel. Quite the combination if you ask me!

I haven’t read any of the other books in the Her Angel series but if they’re anything like this one I fully intend on tackling them sooner rather than later. Time to do a bit of research and find out if Apollyon has his own novel me thinks! Her Guardian Angel is definitely a crowd pleaser and trust me, once you’ve read a couple of Felicity Heaton’s books she’ll have you eating out of the palm of her hand!

  1. @fairypenguin – This is the 3rd book in the series but I don’t think they follow too closely so you can prolly get away with reading whichever ones peak your interest!
