Title: Reaper (novella)
Author: Rachel Vincent
Publisher: Harlequin Enterprises, Harlequin Teen
Release Date: Deceember 1, 2010

From Goodreads:Tod Hudson was a typical teenager. He liked girls, sports, food and tolerated his younger brother, Nash. In fact, he had his whole life in front of him–and due to his bean sidhe heritage, it was going to be a very long life indeed. And then the car accident occurred.

Suddenly Tod’s future wasn’t so sure, and he had to make a choice. Life… Death… or something Between….

First off, I need to let everyone know that this is an eBook exclusive and is currently available to download for FREE at BooksOnBoard for a limited time. It’s a novella but it is well worth the read I assure you!

I just finished reading My Soul to Take last week, which is the first book in Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series. So when I stumbled across this little gem with a $0 price tag and having just bought a Kobo how could I resist? This was such a fun read! I had a smile on my face the entire time while reading. Tod is hilarious!

He’s a reaper, obviously. In this novella we learn how he becomes one. Which is a heart breaking, messed-up story in itself, but after learning it you can’t help but admire him and see him in a whole new light. He has a dark, incredibly sarcastic sense of humor that makes otherwise upsetting situations pretty darned funny. Vincent nails the smart-ass teenager personage.

One of my favorite parts was when he was meeting his boss for the first time. Tod thinks that his new boss tricked him and asks if he can speak to a manager. I just though that was the funniest thing! Maybe without the full context it doesn’t make complete sense but I don’t want to give away any spoilers.

I really got a kick out of this one. It’s short, it’s fun and the writing is amazing. Rachel Vincent is a pro at her craft: writing kick-ass books. You don’t have to have read the series to be able to appreciate Reaper. Mind you, if you have, you’ll probably enjoy it even more! It’s only an hour or less of your time. Read it and you’ll find yourself checking out the rest of this series or her Shifters series guaranteed!

  1. Glad you liked it! I enjoyed it as well. Be sure to check out Rachel’s other prequel My Soul to Lose, you learn about Kaylee’s time in the hospital that was briefly mentioned in MSTTake. You can buy it almost at any online book website or read it for free at Rachel’s website!

  2. I’ve always been extremely intrigued by Tod and felt like we never really got to know him as much as I would have liked in the other books… Though I hate reading stuff on the computer, I might just have to in this case… Thanks for the great review!
