2014 Audiobook Challenge

This is the first challenge I’ve signed-up for in a good long while, and I KILLED IT! I only listened to 27 audiobooks last year, but as you can see from my list below, I’m at 46 for 2014 and there are still a couple of weeks left. I’m hoping to hit 50 before all is said and done, however the holidays are just around the corner, so we’ll see.

Our lovely hosts, The Book Nympho and Hot Listens, are sponsoring a giveaway to celebrate the end of their first year. Enter for a chance to win a 3 month Audible membership or a $25 gift card. Sign-ups for the 2015 Audiobook Challenge will open shortly.

    • Wait until you see my 2015 goals, IAD is going to DOMINATE that list. I’m psyched that you started Poison Princess; the first-half was a little too YA for me, but it really picks up in the 2nd.

  1. Amazing! I just listened to my first audio book this past August and did two more. I’m getting the gist of it. Did you end up having a favorite reader in that bunch you listed? I love all those authors and was just curious if listening to their books would be cool too.

I already like Davina Porter, Diana Gabaldon’s reader.

    • Audiobooks definitely take some getting used to, but once you figure out what works for you, you’ll be hooked. A few of my favourite narrators include: Lauren Fortgang, Luke Daniels, Lorelei King, Renee Raudman & Robert Petkoff. Porter is fantastic too, although Gabaldon’s books are too long for me to listen to. 10-ish hours is my sweet spot.

    • I wasn’t overly optimistic when I first signed-up, but I’m thrilled with my final results. I used to be a reluctant audiobook listener too, however a great narrator can make a world of difference.

    • I have wedding planning to thank for this; audiobooks were a great de-stressor, not sure I’ll do as well in 2015. There’s nothing wrong with aiming for the bottom tier, you have to start somewhere!

    • I read all of the previous installments, this was my first experience with Outlander in audio, and the narrator was amazing. I highly recommend her, but make sure you have LOTS of free time.

    • A lot of the apps come with timers; it’s a great feature for when you’re listening before bed. I’ve been known to burn through an entire audiobook in my sleep without ’em. Hehe!

  2. Woot! Nice job! I need to do my wrap up still – I’m realm slacking on my challenges lately – but I’m pretty sure I’m at about the same level as you! So many good ones too – some I’ve read, most I still need to. Looking forward to getting even more in next year.

    • I try to do one a week, but the longer ones can take up to two. I haven’t been feeling ’em much lately though, so I dunno if I’m going to make it past 46. Oh well!

    • A new level has been added for 2015, and it’s 50+, not sure I’ll be able to hit that one. I’m a few shy this year, so we’ll see. I liked Cassandra Morris’ narration of Armstrong’s YA series, although as the heroine matured her voice did not.

  3. I’ll have to checkout some of the audiobooks you listened to this year!

Congrats on reaching the ‘My Precious’ level this year!! I made the ‘My Precious’ level too in the 2014 Audiobook Challenge. I never thought I’d reach it, but was amazed to reach 48 listens for the year.
