Pre-book blogging? Never. Now, after nearly 4 years of Rabid Reading? ALL THE TIME! It’s one of the main reasons why I stick with—well that, and for you my lovely followers! I wasn’t a big author stalker before I started the blog. Canada isn’t like the States with all their big book conventions (yes, I’m totally jealous); most of the signings take place in either Toronto or Montreal, and of course I live between the two. *sigh* Just my luck. LOL
Reading used to be a pretty solitary experience for me, but now I find myself tweeting progress updates, interacting with other bookworms, posting pictures of ARCs on Instagram, etc. And, more often than not, authors reply to my online fangirling. Sometimes it’s just a quick “hey, thanks for reading”, but other times it can lead to some pretty interesting conversations! At first, I was kind of nervous about all of the attention, but as the years progressed, and I become more comfortable in the blogging community, I began to actively seek out authors.
I don’t think twice about reaching out to them now because social media really has made the world smaller, and for the most part, authors welcome questions/comments from readers. I love it when I get emails from followers asking me for recommendations, or just to tell me how much they love my blog. Positive feedback never hurts, so I figure that most writers won’t mind the occasional enthusiastic fan mail either. I mean, who doesn’t like to hear about how awesome they are?
