Top 10 of 2013

Another year has come and gone which means that it’s time to participate in Two Chicks On Books, Fiktshun and Magical Urban Fantasy Reads annual TOP 10 OF 2013 week long meme. Not only do I love lists but these posts are easy to put together and schedule during the holidays so that I can spend time with my family. These books were all published this year. Enjoy!

Snakeroot 10. Snakeroot by Andrea Cremer

This cover’s pretty simple but I really like the way that the creepy black roots snake up her neck onto her face. It fits the title well and draws the eye.
Zombie Glass 09. Zombie Glass by Gena Showalter

I have a thing for ALICE IN WONDERLAND so it should come as no surprise that 2 out of the 10 covers on my list feature artwork inspired by Lewis Carroll’s fairy tale.
The Sharpest Blade 08. The Sharpest Blade by Sandy Williams

No top 10 list would be complete without at least one badass chick with a sword and out of all the titles that were released this year, this one’s my favourite.
Winter Queen 07. Winter Queen by Amber Argyle

I don’t know who does Amber Argyle’s artwork but every single one of her covers is breathtaking. WINTER QUEEN is the best one out of the bunch from 2013 IMO.
Banewolf 06. Banewolf by Eden Ashley

I’m a huge fan of Nathalia Suellen’s covers; this is one of three that made my list this year. It couldn’t have been easy to blend a wolf’s head with that of a human’s.
Scorched 05. Scorched by Mari Mancusi

I love fire and dragons so when I was looking through covers to come up with my top 10 I couldn’t resist adding this beauty to my list. LOVE!
The Misfortune Cookie 04. The Misfortune Cookie by Laura Resnick

I like this one because it’s funky; it’s definitely not your typical Urban Fantasy cover. I like how the artist incorporated so many Chinese elements.
Brazen 03. Brazen by Kelley Armstrong

This is hands-down my favourite werewolf cover of 2013. I even asked for the limited edition hardcover for Christmas just so I can admire it in person. Fingers crossed!
Black and Blue 02. Black and Blue by Gena Showalter

Another beautiful cover by the talented Nathalia Suellen. I love the colour scheme, the way her dress flows into water and the blue lipstick.
Splintered 01. Splintered by A.G. Howard

This book was released in early January and managed to stick with me through the whole year. Nathalia Suellen + ALICE IN WONDERLAND = I’m in love!

  1. Great picks Carmel! Like you I have a fondness for the Alice in Wonderland based covers (bet you never guessed that one huh LOL) so Splintered and Zombie Glass are some of my favorites this year. Love The Sharpest Blade too…who doesn’t love a badass chick with a sword.

    Merry Christmas!!!

    • I usually try not to feature an author more than once on a top 10 list (I like to spread the love around) but Gena’s covers are just so amazing that I couldn’t resist.
