Cover Love

The Rules: Choose a cover (or two, or three), preferably new-ish, and share what you like about it. Grab my graphic or don’t (just so long as you link back). I’ll be posting Cover Love every Monday but feel free to post yours on whatever day works best for you.

My Picks:

Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter
I’m not sure if I’m more attracted by the cover or the story but either way; how awesome is this?

All of the branches in the background are creepy. It really feels like the forest is trying to pull her in and eat her!

The white puffy dress is stunning plus the contrast between the black and the white really makes it stand out.

Check out the spade at the bottom and the heart at the top. I love these details!

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would changed course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real.

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.

Blackwood by Gwenda Bond
I like snakes and I think they’re beautiful… but from afar. In cover art format they are even better!

The green and red color scheme is an interesting choice. Hard to pull off without looking Xmas-y but well worth it when you succeed.

Is the girl lying on the ground? Is the snake her friend or her enemy? This book makes me ask questions; I like that.

On Roanoke Island, the legend of the 114 people who mysteriously vanished from the Lost Colony hundreds of years ago is just an outdoor drama for the tourists, a story people tell. But when the island faces the sudden disappearance of 114 people now, an unlikely pair of 17-year-olds may be the only hope of bringing them back.

Miranda, a misfit girl from the island’s most infamous family, and Phillips, an exiled teen criminal who hears the voices of the dead, must dodge everyone from federal agents to long-dead alchemists as they work to uncover the secrets of the new Lost Colony. The one thing they can’t dodge is each other.

  Fairy Blues by J.L. Bryan
I saw this one over at Xpresso Reads the other day and instantly loved it but I also couldn’t laughing. How cute is this!?

I like the fairy with her pink hair and her purple outfit. It’s just too great for words.

The guitar and the splashes that look like sound waves further add to the overall “look”.

The sequel to Fairy Metal Thunder.

With their enchanted instruments charming the crowds, the Assorted Zebras attract interest from record producers, and soon they’re off to cut their first album and music video. Jason and his friends don’t know they’ve just become pawns in a sinister plot by a cabal of evil fairies…

Meanwhile, Aoide and her band pursue a new strategy for regaining their stolen instruments, one that will take them into the most haunted region in Faerie.

  1. Hey Carmel,
Thanks for stopping by my Cover Love!! OK, what do I have to do to get you to follow me back?? I’ve been wanting that little wolf head to appear in my followers since I first participated, and nothing!! I’m starting to get a complex–I’m not feeling the love here!! LOL LOL LOL 🙂 Have a good day off!! 🙂

  2. You know, if you hadn’t mentioned the heart and spade on Alice in Zombieland, I wouldn’t have noticed them. I think I stared at that cover for hours wondering what the book is about (to my great shame – yes, again- , I haven’t read any of Gena Showalter’s books). So thanks for pointing that out.
I agree about the snakes. I mean, if an itty bitty spider can make me pale and tremble like I was seeing a hungry lion, I can’t imagine seeing a snake up close and personal.
Love the Fairy Blues cover 😀

  3. I adore the Alice in Zombieland cover. It helps that I love 3 things about the book already:
    1. Alice in Wonderland is great!
    2. Gena Showalter is one of my favourite PNR authors!
    3. Zombies are just awesome!

I love the pooffy dress and the little skulls in the border. Thumbs up to the artist who designed it and his/her attention to detail.

“Off with their heads.” — I love it!
