Love hurts, and no one knows it better than Georgina Kincaid. If she so much as kisses Seth Mortensen, the shy, sexy, incredibly gifted Seattle writer she’s been dating, she’ll drain his life force. Georgina is a succubus – a demon who draws her power from other men’s pleasure. Admittedly, the shapeshifting and immortality perks are terrific, and yes, Georgina did choose to join the ranks of hell centuries ago. But it seems completely unfair that a she-demon whose purpose is seduction can’t get hot and heavy with the one mortal who knows and accepts her for who she is.

It’s not just her personal life that’s in chaos. Doug, Georgina’s co-worker at a local bookstore, has been exhibiting bizarre behaviour, and Georgina suspects that something far more demonic than double espressos is at work. She could use help finding out, but Bastien, an irresistibly charming incubus and her best immortal friend, is preoccupied with corrupting an ultra-conservative talk radio star – and giving Georgina some highly distracting come-hither vibes. Georgina is going to have to work solo on this one – and fast because soon, Doug’s life won’t be the only one on the line.

I have yet to come across a crucial plot line in the Georgina Kincaid series. What I mean by this is that yes, the characters are working towards resolving a problem but the overall story doesn’t revolve around its success. In this case, it took me a good chunk of the book before I realized what the plot line actually was and the same thing happened in Succubus Blues. Succubus on Top felt more like a warped version of a reality TV show or a preternatural soap opera than a paranormal novel. Richelle Mead is the first author that I’ve come across who’s been able to pull this off and she does it extremely well I might add. I’m really diggin’ this series!

Georgina is an awesome character; I absolutely love her to bits! I was happy to see that Seth didn’t get scared off by her succubus nature because they make an adorable couple. Which is weird seeing how they can’t be intimate but then again, when the physical aspect of a relationship is not an option the emotional side has to compensate. I love how open they are with each other and what lengths they are willing to go to in order to express their feelings while continually resisting the urge to jump each others’ bones. Needless to say, this is no easy task for a sex demon and any warm blooded-male on the planet.

I like how raw Richelle Mead’s writing is in these books. The characters tell it like it is and cuss like sailors (bonus points). The dialogue is phenomenal too and causes the lines between fiction and reality to blur. Listening to the audio book version of Succubus on Top probably boosts the conversations’ realism by a couple of notches as well.

Georgina’s long time friend Bastien is introduced in this installment. He’s an incubus which is the male equivalent of a sex demon. His methods of seduction are a bit different because females can be a little trickier to seduce for a quick romp in the sack. I’m not sure how I feel about Bastien yet. There were moments when I liked him and ones where I really didn’t. I’m kinda hoping that he doesn’t become a permanent fixture in this series… Although, this seems to be the overall consensus among reviewers so at least I’m not alone!

I can’t get over how quickly I became hooked on these books considering that they weren’t even on my radar originally. It was a fluke that I bought the first audio book and now I find myself committed to the whole series! Succubus on Top is addictively written with unforgettable side-characters and Georgina is just a-w-e-s-o-m-e!
